SCN uses automated processing in two places, and we want you to know where.

The AI assistant. Our website offers an assistant that answers questions about the network. When you use it, your question and the company-level directory information needed to answer it (company name, city, country and specializations) are sent to OpenAI, our AI provider, to generate the reply. Contact details of individuals are never sent to the assistant. The same applies to Smart Quote: the shipment description you type is sent to OpenAI so the form can be pre-filled. Please do not include personal or confidential information in those free-text fields that you would not want processed this way.

The Activity Score. Member companies are given a score based on their participation in the network — conference attendance, years of membership, responses to enquiries, community activity and similar. This score is used to order results in the member directory, so it affects how prominently a company appears. It is calculated from records of activity, not from personal characteristics, and it does not by itself produce legal effects on any individual. Members can see their own score and how it was calculated, and may contact us to query it.

Your data is stored on servers located in the European Union (Amsterdam, the Netherlands). Some of the services we rely on are provided by companies based outside the EU, which means limited categories of data are transferred to them:

• Email delivery — the address and content of the messages we send you.
• AI processing — as described in section 9.
• Spam protection — technical signals used to tell a person from a bot on our public forms.

Where a transfer outside the European Economic Area takes place, we require the safeguards set out in Chapter V of the GDPR, such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses. You may contact us for details of the safeguards in place for a specific service.

We take appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data, including encryption of passwords, access controls that limit member and contact information to authenticated users, and logging of administrative actions.

No system is completely secure. If a personal data breach occurs that is likely to result in a risk to your rights and freedoms, we will notify the competent supervisory authority without undue delay and, where the risk is high, we will inform the affected individuals directly.
